DtK Purpose
by Pastor Rick
Pastor Rick’s calling is to help God’s people grow in their relationship with Him, through teaching, preaching, and counseling. The other goal is to help Christians navigate life in the light of God’s Word.
The goal of Rick’s pastoral work is also to lead believers into a deeper personal relationship with God, to help them discover, develop, and exercise their spiritual gifts, and to help them accomplish God’s purpose for their lives.
Rick is also deeply passionate about fulfilling the Great Commission by introducing people to Jesus through God’s Word and showing them God’s plan of salvation as revealed in the bible.
On a personal note: Over the years, having met hundreds of Christians and those claiming to be Christians in church, I have discovered that many true believers have not been taught very basic Christian disciplines, such as how to study the Bible or how to pray or recognize their gifting and serve Him. I meet more sincere believers who have been in church for years and yet do not know their spiritual gifts nor God’s purpose for their lives.
The most common question I am asked is how to know God’s will or recognize when He is speaking to them. I have had Pastors tell me they do not know when God is speaking and are uncertain of His will and purpose for their ministry. This is sad considering how eager God is to communicate with ALL His people. I am not special but was blessed with a home church in my early development as a Christian that was well-equipped to disciple believers. In a sense, many Christians are citizens of a Kingdom they do not understand and subjects of a King they do not know very well.
The greater concern, however, is those people who regularly attend church and even serve in various positions who have never responded to the gospel. For them, church attendance, service, and proper public behavior are their false means of salvation. They think they are acceptable to God because they do what is right in their own eyes. What they do not realize is that if they do not hear and respond to God’s plan of redemption, their works will not be acceptable when they inevitably face Him and are judged.
Many Christians are dependent upon pastors, and teachers to help them deal with life’s challenges. They have little faith founded upon limited knowledge of God’s Word and it does not take much of a trial to knock them off their feet or keep them staggering in their walk with God. Christians like this fail to realize their true potential as sons and daughters of the living God.
My desire and purpose are to share my experiences with God and the personal insights He has given me to share with others.
Discover the Kingdom is also a place for others who have a personal relationship with Jesus to share their experiences and faith lessons. Discover the Kingdom certainly wants those curious about the Christian faith to explore our content. It is my earnest desire and prayer that those who may not have a personal relationship with Jesus will acknowledge that deep inner sense that there is a God who loves them and has a greater purpose for their life.
As in the name Discover the Kingdom, the word discover is key to the purpose of this ministry. My purpose is to continually discover, through intentional exploration, more about the Kingdom of God and its ruling King, Jesus.
